Project Engineer (Engineer II – Project)
Leonardo DRS Electro-Optical Infrared Systems (EOIS) has locations in Cypress, CA, Dallas, TX and Melbourne, FL. EOIS is a leading designer, manufacturer and integrator of high performance, technically advanced infrared (IR) cooled and uncooled detector packages, electro-optical and infrared (EOIR) cameras and EOIR camera systems for military and commercial applications. Military platforms for EOIS-designed and manufactured systems include dismounted soldiers, ground combat vehicles, rotor and fixed-wing aircraft, and space-based payloads.
The Project Engineer reports to the Line of Business (LOB) Technical Leader and is fully responsible for the technical leadership of assigned product development projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Project planning to include identification of project technical objectives and product development strategy; preparation of the project Work Breakdown Structure, Integrated Master Plans and Schedules to cover all technical effort; coordination with Systems Engineering to identify project technical metrics including technical performance measures (TPM) and key performance parameters (KPP); identification of project resource needs in terms of equipment, facilities, and personnel.
Project technical risk and opportunity management to include identifying, assessing, and prioritizing project technical risks and opportunities; develop and implement project technical risk mitigation and opportunity achievement plans; ensure execution of technical risk reduction and opportunity achievement activities; monitor and control project technical risk activities.
Project execution and technical baseline control to include leading project engineering efforts to satisfy system requirements and ensure customer satisfaction; perform as the project engineering liaison to Project Management, New Product Introduction, Production, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, ILS, subcontractors, and customers; establish and update baselines for requirements and evolving configurations/products; ensure technical change control processes are invoked and executed; maintain traceability of configurations; approve technical data packages; participate on the project Configuration Control Board (chair CCB if delegated by Project Manager).
Project effort assessment to include collecting, analyzing, tracking, and reporting project metrics including technical performance measures, key performance parameters, and product cost; ensure product peer reviews are conducted; lead preparation for and conduct project control gate reviews.
Required Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics, Master’s degree desired.
PMP certification desired.
Minimum of five years of Project Engineering experience required encompassing the planning and successful execution engineering development projects, preferably EO/IR system development.
Minimum of ten years of experience in Systems Engineering or Design Engineering, preferably with EO/IR systems, is required.
Professional work experience in defense industry/DoD desired.
