Senior Electrical Engineer (Engineer III – Electrical Engineering)
Leonardo DRS Land Electronics (DLE) has locations in Huntsville, AL and Melbourne, FL. DLE is a leading designer, manufacturer and integrator of cyber-hardened network computing for C4I, battlefield management systems and integrated situational awareness.
The Senior Electrical Engineer reports to the Electrical Engineering Manager and is responsible for electrical engineering activities of assigned product development projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Support Program Management
o Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments
o Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
o Communicate clearly (written and oral) with program and customer as required
- Participate in all electrical engineering activities
o Provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
o Mentor and coach the work of others
o Support, communicate, reinforce and defend program goals
o Collaborate with the efforts of other electrical engineers assigned to the project
- Develop Electrical Architecture, Simulate and Design Circuitry
o Identify baseline and alternate candidate design concepts and architectures
o Prepare trade studies for performance, SWAP and cost
o Evaluate and optimize candidate design concepts and architectures
o Design moderate complexity circuit card assemblies
o Perform modeling, simulation, throughput and power analysis
o Prepare technical data packages for assemblies
o Prepare hardware description documents
- Develop prototypes to retire key development risks
o Identify long lead items
o Support Supply Chain on “Make/Buy” decisions and supplier selection
o Coordinate with key component suppliers and assembly contractors
- Perform Design Verification
o Develop design verification pass/fail criteria
o Plan and conduct prototype tests documenting all results.
- Plan Production Readiness
o Work with Systems and Test Equipment Engineering, identify needs for product test equipment and develop engineering and production test equipment design and verification requirements
o Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Production Operations to develop production processes
Required Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Master’s degree desired.
Minimum of five years of electrical engineering experience designing/developing Intel x86 motherboards and systems.
Experience with portable, battery powered systems preferred.
Knowledge of video display design a plus.
Professional work experience in defense industry/DoD desired.
