Department Profile:

As the federally-designated organ procurement organization (OPO) for 10 counties in east Central Florida, TransLife works closely with hospitals and donor families to coordinate the gift of life. At the time of donation, TransLife becomes a critical link between a donor and possible recipients. Our responsibilities include the recovery, preservation and distribution of donated organs to critically ill patients. The recipients of donation are identified by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), which manages the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network and national transplant waiting list. TransLife is dedicated to saving and improving lives through organ and tissue donation and public education, while honoring all donors and their loved ones whose generosity makes the gift of life possible.

8a-5p; Monday - Friday

Job Summary:

The Clinical Donation Associate is available to assist the Organ Procurement Coordinator (OPC) with all donor related activities with specific focus on potential organ and tissue donor referral response, donor evaluation, huddle coordination, hospital development activities, daily donation rounds and initial mention of donation (when necessary). This 24 hour on-call position requires the extended work hours, flexibility and travel. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

  • CPR Certification (preferred)

  • Three years trauma center experience (preferred)

  • At least two years (2) experience in an Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) (preferred)

  • Associate’s degree in healthcare or related field (preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • • Current valid Florida Driver’s License Class “E” and driving record in accordance with Florida Hospital policy

  • Valid Auto Insurance

  • Graduate from an Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program (preferred)

  • School of Surgical Technology (preferred)

  • Emergency Medical Technician and/or Paramedic (preferred)

  • RRT or other allied health certification (preferred)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assumes 24 hour on-call responsibility for organ and tissue donation activity. Provides prompt response to organ and tissue donation referrals during 24 hour on-call period.

  • Performs thorough patient evaluation for organ and tissue donation. Recognize and understand brain death as a function of donation suitability.

  • Provides exceptional customer service to our donor service area hospitals during any onsite visit or response. Maintains cordial and respectful relationships with hospital personnel.

  • Coordinates donation huddle to communicate donation action plan to all relevant parties (i.e., hospital and OPO staff)

  • When required, discuss donation option with family until Organ Procurement Coordinator (OPC) can arrive onsite.

  • Assist OPC with case start, as needed.

  • Performs potential donor patient rounds, coordinates organ recovery cases/organ import offers. Rounds and/or calls various hospitals to determine potential organ donation.

  • Documents donor information in TransLife database and communicates data to the OPC.
